광주과학기술원 뉴로포토닉스 연구실은 생물학과 의학에서 아직까지 풀리지 않고 있는 암과 뇌질환 등의 난제를 해결하기 위하여 노력하고 있습니다. 임상의학에서 새로운 치료법을 개발하는데 있어서 작은 동물 모델을 이용하여 질병의 진행경과를 가시화 하거나 치료과정을 모니터링하는 기술은 특히 중요합니다. 이러한 목표를 위하여 저희 연구실에서는 살아있는 생체 내에서 (in vivo) 사용할 수 있는 혁신적인 광학 이미징 시스템과 방법론을 개발하고 있습니다. 첨단 의생명 광학 기술을 이용하여 분자, 세포, 조직-장기 및 전신 스케일에서의 기능성 이미징으로 기초 생물학과 중개 의학에 있어서 근원적인 통찰을 제시하는 것이 본 연구실이 추구하는 목표입니다.
My laboratory is driven to solve current outstanding problems in biomedicine such as neurovascular diseases by use of state-of-the-art neurophotonics technology. The visualization of disease progression and therapeutic monitoring of small animal models is critical for developing therapeutic strategies in clinical medicine. Towards this goal, we establish innovative in vivo optical imaging platforms and methodology by creating functional imaging technologies spanning molecular, cellular, tissue-organ, and whole-body scales using toolsets from biophotonics. Our approach will provide insights into basic biology and impact translational medicine.

06/01/17 [GRANT] The NeuroPhotonics Lab’s proposal (Prof. E. Chung, Co-PI) secured the BRAIN Challenge grant entitled as “Development of high-speed 3D fluorescence microscopesystems for comprehensive molecular imaging of optical cleared mouse brains.” This grant will support a multi-institutional (SNU, KAIST, POSTECH, UNIST) collaborative effort for up to five years. 04/04/17 [GRANT] The NeuroPhotonics Lab’s proposal (Prof. E. Chung, PI) related to the development of automatic focusing and control system for high resolution structural and functional brain mapping has been accepted for funding support from the Korea Brain Research Institute for three years.
